Our new Living Innovation Zone on Market St is installed and in our final 24 hours of crowd-fundraising the project! Please help us continue to bring Exploratorium exhibits to open, free, public space. We need your support! Two exhibits pictured here:
Musical Benches - Two strangers explore the Exploratorium’s public Musical Bench. This bench measures the electrical resistance between copper tubes on the armrests and turns that into musical notes. When people close the electrical circuit by putting their hands on both armrests (say, two people hold hands on the bench), it releases beautiful sounds.
Whispering Dishes - The Listening Vessels are two large parabolic sound reflectors set 50 feet apart from one another on Market Street. When visitors sit opposite each other, the sound coming from each reflector is focused, allowing them to clearly hear the other’s voice in spite of the distance separating them or noise along the streets.
